CA.RE. FOR. ENGINEERING has implemented the Technical Protocol, applied by Fiorentini Firenze S.p.A., which enabled the certification of extra virgin olive oil as coming from a “certified sustainable supply chain.”
The Protocol defines and allows the measurement and reporting of environmental sustainability and ethical-social value indicators, enabling the declaration of the sustainability of the supply chain for extra virgin olive oil production. It also includes a plan to improve performance by reducing environmental impacts and enhancing ethical and social objectives.
One key outcome of implementing the Protocol was the quantification of the carbon footprint related to the 2018-2019 olive harvest campaign. This will allow the supply chain to set future targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, aiming towards the production of “carbon neutral” extra virgin olive oil.
