We provide sustainability consulting and promote circular technologies that convert paper sludge into efficient solid energy carriers, offering improved performance compared to traditional pyrolysis for biogas production.
Paper sludge, a by-product of the paper industry, represents a significant environmental and economic challenge due to its high moisture content, presence of harmful substances, and costly disposal requirements. Conventional management methods often rely on incineration or landfilling, which are neither sustainable nor efficient in terms of resource recovery.
Our approach focuses on innovative thermochemical processes—such as hydrothermal carbonization—that allow for the direct conversion of wet sludge into solid biofuels without the need for energy-intensive drying. The resulting materials exhibit enhanced properties, including higher energy density, better combustion performance, and improved handling and storage characteristics.
These circular solutions not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on fossil fuels but also contribute to the optimization of waste management strategies in the paper sector. By turning a problematic waste stream into a valuable resource, we support companies in meeting EU sustainability targets and adopting cost-effective, low-impact energy alternatives.
Through environmental and techno-economic assessments, we help identify scalable opportunities for resource valorisation, enabling a transition toward more resilient and circular industrial systems.
